Operation inspection and regular maintenance
Pre-operational checks
  • Cleaning

    • Clean foreign substances in the cold water basin.
    • Clean foreign substances in the water pump box and screen.
    • Clean foreign substances in the hot water basin and nozzle.
    • Clean the debris and foreign substances in the filer and eliminator.
    • Clean and remove foreign substances in other parts. (Dust, moss, etc.)
  • Inspection

    • Conditions of feedwater pump and fan motor
    • Accuracy in fastening of bolts in each component (especially parts connected to the fan)
    • Accuracy of alignment between the drive pulley and the sides
    • Lubricants for each drive component should be replaced before normal cooling operation
    • Abnormality in the supply of makeup water
    • Accuracy of fan blade angle and gap
  • Water supply

    • Supply water to the operating level for both the tower and system
    • Start the circulating pump first and gradually increase the flow to eliminate pulsation and air in the pipes.
    • Check if the circulating water flow matches the design value.
  • Fan drive

    • First, manually rotate the fan several times to check for any abnormalities. If there are no issues, turn on the switch several times to turn on the fan.
    • Measure the voltage and current when the temperature of each bearing reaches normal temperature. Compare the measurements to the rated current if there are any abnormalities and immediately stop the operation for complementary measures.
    • After the initial operation and when the belt has been replaced, recheck the belt tension after running it for about seven days.

Winter
  • Continuous operation

    • Cooling tower operation in temperatures below 0℃ easily forms ice on the fan inlet side.
    • Stop the fan and increase the hot water volume to expand the heat dissipation area.
  • Intermittent operation

    • Operate after establishing the countermeasures for frozen piping and other components.
Management during the suspension period
Motor Inspect the oil and bearing and ensure the exterior is not damaged from rain and snow
Speed reducer Remove the interior condensate water and submerge each driving component in oil. Establish measures and take actions for rain and snow protection.
Piping Discharge all the water inside the pipes.
Filler & Eliminator Ensure there are no damages caused by external impact and avoid exposure to direct sunlight as much as possible.
Other Paint if necessary and pay particular attention to maintenance of major components.
